Thank You

Why is taking a break so important?

SAFETY: Worker fatigue and stress can lead to safety issues for patients and healthcare workers. The best way to keep safe and prevent accidents is to take your breaks on time. A physically rested worker is more productive, more focused and completes tasks with fewer errors.

RESPECT: Breaks are a basic sign of respect that we all deserve.

PAY: If just 25% of workers in Washington missed just one 10 minute break a week with an average wage of $12/hour, it could add up to nearly $80 Million a year. Missed lunches would make this number higher still.

STAFFING: Breaks are required under state law and protected in our contracts.

A break not taken is time on the clock not staffed. When we work through our breaks, we encourage our employer to short our shifts. The solution is proper staffing levels, not missing breaks.
