Grocery Store Bargain Update: Still Working On the Pension Solution
Still Working On the Pension Solution
We are still hard at work with the major effort of trying to fix our pension. This is a very significant amount of money and getting it addressed will be an important part of reaching an overall new contract. Members who spend their careers in the grocery industry deserve a strong and secure retirement plan.
Kroger Pension Tentative Agreement
We were able to reach a Tentative Agreement with Kroger in July after a series of meetings since early in the year. This agreement would, if we are able to reach a similar deal with Safeway/Albertsons, put our pension plan in the Green Zone and would offer up a long-term solution that would make the pension less of a bargaining focus every 3-years. This is very good news.
Update on Safeway/Albertsons Pension Negotiations We held more meetings in August with Safeway/Albertsons that included very good discussions. We also have meetings on September 9th and 10th We are hoping that Safeway/ Albertsons will come prepared to make proposals to get closer to a Tentative Agreement like we have already reached with Kroger.
