UFCW 3000 Member Story: Daisy Hannelore
Daisy Echo Hannelore is a new UFCW 3000 Shop Steward at the Benson Plaza Fred Meyer in the Electronics Department.
Daisy has been a retail worker and union supporter her whole life. After 23 years with Costco, dealing with poor management and unfair labor conditions, and many of her own attempts to organize within her workplace she knew she needed a union Job. She saw that Fred Meyer workers had a union and applied right away. She has been working there a little bit over a year and it didn’t take her long to get involved.
Daisy attended both our Leaders in Action Training and Steward Trainings this summer and was recently asked to join the 2025 Grocery Store Bargaining Team representing General Merchandise workers.
She’s already shown her strength in advocating for her co-workers; recently she helped a member avoid discipline by exercising a shop steward’s right to talk privately with the union member that they are representing in an investigatory meeting. Having trained shop stewards in the workplace ensures that management treats union workers fairly and follows the union contract.
Daisy is definitely a shop steward from head to toe, here nametag even says it proudly to her co-workers and customers, “Union Shop Steward”.
