Providence RNs | Our fight continues at the bargaining table

After hundreds of us marched on the picket line including Techs and Support Services at St. Peter’s and Centralia on May 5, Providence continues to disrespect us at the table! We have worked through an entire pandemic short staffed and being undervalued.

We met with Management on Friday, May 7, and they acknowledged our “impressive” turnout. Yet they proposed takeaways to PTO accruals, elimination of EIB, subpar across the board wage increases, short staffing, and lack of movement on contract language. They believe their wage increases are above market even though Swedish and Overlake’s pay scales are higher than ours.

To date, Providence has proposed to:

  • Increase wages by a fraction of a percentage each year

  • Paid parking for the Nurses and all other bargaining units

  • Increase preceptor pay by only a few cents

  • Eliminating EIB and reducing PTO

  • Minimally increased education money

  • Failed to move on noneconomic proposals

On Monday, May 10, we presented our counterproposal which includes:

  • Competitive across the board increases which are about 15.5% more than what the Employer is offering

  • Elimination of “ghost steps” on the wage scale

  • Increasing education money by hundreds of dollars and having the ability to carry over education money to next year

  • Increasing Employer contributions to our retirement plan

  • Limiting floating for non-float pool nurses to three times per pay period and increasing float pay

In addition, Providence presented their wage scale which adds a “ghost step” between Step 16 and 17 and essentially only provides two wage increases for the life of the contract.
