St. Joseph Medical Center Technical Bargaining Update
/Thursday, June 4 marked our fourth bargaining session with CommonSpirit management, and also marked the Employer’s initial economic responses. Considering we brought our initial economic proposals all the way back on March 4, we were eager to see what their proposal entailed.
The excitement regarding these responses, however, started to deflate when we saw that they’d outright rejected any proposed increases to our pay premiums and differentials; citing that they really wanted to focus on the hourly wage scales, instead.
But… this is where any potential excitement came to a grinding halt.
Management’s initial wage scale proposal was a flat two percent (2.00%) in the first year of our contract for all job classifications; followed by another two percent (2.00%) in 2027, and two percent (2.00%) in 2028.
Beyond the under-market and under-whelming wage proposal, Management also held their position on some takeaways to our current contract. Most notably, language which would increase the cost of health insurance benefits for a number of our coworkers.
Once Management had wrapped up presenting these responses to us, our Bargaining Team wasted no time getting to work on our counterproposals, and importantly, planning out the next steps we will all need to take to win a strong contract.
