Uwajimaya Union Bargaining Update
/On January 14, our Bargaining Team met with Uwajimaya for the first time for contract negotiations. We put forward several proposals which would recognize the premium work done in our meat departments compared to mainstream grocery stores. These proposal included:
Significant wage increases at the top of the scale
Reduce length of time it takes to get to Journey Cutter
One pay scale for the region that would raise pay throughout the scale
Increase manager premiums and establish assistant manager position
Language that would ensure unused earned vacation would not be lost
Maintaining industry leading health care
Protecting our retirement by ensuring pension stays funded
However, the Employer rejected several of our proposals and declined to respond to our wage proposals. Our Bargaining Team is ready to fight at the table to get a deal that recognizes the hard work that workers do to ensure that Uwajimaya is successful.
Support your Bargaining Team and get informed by joining us for our Contract Action Team meeting. We will be reviewing our first session and discuss next steps.
