Creating a Better Future for All SRH Workers

On October 24, we met with the Employer briefly and drafted the plan for the subsequent bargaining sessions. We will have a private meeting on October 30 to put together all the economic proposals. On November 6, we will present all the economic proposals to the Employer. This is the stage where we need to act together and show the Employer that we are committed to fighting for a contract that will carry all the benefits we deserve. If the SRH CEO does not have financial concerns about making ends meet, we shall not have that concern either. They have heard our committee over and over that we are striving for fair adjustments to all the contract language.

The Employer has inquired about an MOU on the tentative agreed-upon new language regarding Meals and Breaks, and has spread false statements that our Union is holding this matter. We have maintained our position that any tentative agreements are not official until the whole membership has had an opportunity to ratify the new contract.

On November 6, for the first time, the Employer is coming to our house to have the bargaining session. This is a healthier step towards building a stronger relationship and ensuring the pillars for a better future. We appreciate that the Employer has taken this initiative, and we hope this is a game-changer on our path to a better future.

Some Tentative Agreements Reached Include:

  • Beginning bargaining sessions 90 days prior to expiration

  • Language that will make us a stronger Union, with access to the right information

  • Modified language to acknowledge Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

  • Improved language that will allow Shop Stewards to carry out their duties around the hospital and clinics

  • Workers will have access to their CBA through the hospital intranet

  • Language to bargain over job descriptions changes

  • Language to protect workers going through immigration

  • An email from the Employer acknowledges that the discipline has been removed and is no longer considered

Our subsequent bargaining sessions will be on November 6 and 14. There are possibilities of more bargaining days in December (if necessary); we will let you know in the next bargaining update. We encourage all members to keep wearing your Union colors in the workplace and join us for our CAT (Contract Action Team) meetings.

Skagit Regional Health Creating A Better Future For All Skagit Regional Health Employees

After four meetings with the Employer, we have made progress and moved forward with the non-economic aspects that will ensure an improved contract for everyone in SRH. In this last bargaining section, we tentatively agreed on items that were part of the committee’s goals; these are bolded below. We all stay together, demonstrating unity and a willingness to stand up to the Employer, letting them know that our Bargaining Team has our trust and unquestionable support. We are about to start the economic conversations with SRH, and we feel that this could be a historic contract for us and our families. Today, more than ever, you need to stay alert and ready to engage in our contract fight.

With our 2nd meeting with the employer under our belts, we are excited to share some updates. On Friday September 12, we continued conversations around non-economics that included rights of union stewards, bulletin boards, union access to the premises, sub-contracting, and others. SRH listened to our concerns and agreed to many of our proposals, maybe with a tweak or two.

Skagit Regional Health - New Contract Ratified!

“We are happy to announce that the contract ratified with a 94% YES vote. We appreciate everyone who came out to vote.”

-Mike Koening, Engineer/SRH Bargaining Team Member

Skagit Regional Health union members have overwhelmingly ratified their new 3.5 year contract with a 94% YES vote! We won historical wage increases, a minimum of 14.75% wage increase with many classifications receiving wage increases of up to 30.25%. There is also an additional 8 hours of PTO, an additional convenience day, an increase in premium pay, and per diem differentials increase of 4.0%.

Proposed wage increases should be effective the second full pay period after ratification. Our Bargaining Team thanks you for your solidarity as we fought hard for strong new language, per diem differentials, and so much more!

Management is reviewing our proposals on economics, and we expect to hear back on these reviews by our next meeting.

Our next bargaining session will be Wednesday, August 17.

The best way to show your solidarity is by acting and showing that we are powerful as a unit that is UNITED.

Skagit Regional Health - Building Momentum Towards a Strong Contract

“Our team is working meticulously to build a contract that represents everyone’s interests. We are finishing up our non-economic proposals while looking forward to getting to work on the economic side of the contract!”

-Thomas Kean, Exercise Physiologist

On Wednesday April 27, our Bargaining Team met with Management for our fourth joint negotiations session. We made another set of proposals on topics ranging from EIB cash out to extra shift procedures. We heard loud and clear from our coworkers that the Reallocation Process needed to be overhauled, as many feel they have no say in the process. This is why we proposed to make the process much more collaborative in a number of ways, including holding a staff forum before bidding takes place. At this forum workers can ask questions about and make suggestions on how a Reallocation will be handled. Management also provided us with another set of proposals which we are reviewing.

In our next session on May 5, we plan to propose the last of our “non-economic” language changes. Once that is done, we hope to quickly reach agreements on what we have proposed and start getting into more economic issues.

Our team is very aware that the economic issues we face, such as our low wages, PTO accruals, and differentials/premiums, are at the heart of the current staffing crisis and are deeply important to our coworkers. At the same time, we want to make sure the strong non-economic improvements we are seeking are not swept under the rug when our economic negotiations begin. We want to clear the way, so that when our full economic proposals hit the table, we are able to give them our full undivided attention and make sure we receive the economic increases we desperately need.

We hope that Management will work with us to quickly address the issues we have already proposed on. This will allow us to fully dive into economics and get to a strong contract as quickly as possible. In order to ensure that happens, we need to show Management we are serious.

Please join us at one of our upcoming Virtual Contract Action Team meetings on Tuesday, May 17 @ 1PM and 6PM. We will go into more detail about our negotiations so far and talk about what our coworkers can do in the field to support our team at the bargaining table. Contact a Bargaining Team member or your Union Rep for the meeting details.

On Wednesday, March 9, our bargaining team meet with management for our second joint negotiations session. We provided management with a full set of initial proposals on a myriad of topics including job posting, equity, pandemic safety, PTO requests, training recognition, bereavement leave, and much more. We are eager to hear management’s responses to our initial proposals at our next meeting on March 23, where we also plan to propose more improvements to our union contract.

Our team will continue to work hard at the table to get us a strong new contract, but we can’t do it alone. We need the support of all of our coworkers behind us if we are going to get real solutions to the big issues we face!

Please join us for one of our upcoming Virtual Contract Action Team meetings, which will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 1PM and 7PM.  At these meetings, we will discuss what we can do in the field to help support our team at the table.
