St. Michael Medical Center RN Bargaining Update

On Wednesday, July 2, our Bargaining Team met with Saint Michael Medical Center Management for another joint bargaining session. In the morning we worked on responses to nearly all of the economic items on the table.

While Management remains preoccupied with their repeated proposals around colored scrubs and how this relates to patient safety, they simultaneously continue to reject staffing ratios- an issue we consider far more important to patient safety! Virginia Mason, Saint Anthony’s, and the ED at St. Joseph were pointed to by Management as other hospitals with colored scrubs. The latest pass from Management did include a stipend for new scrubs, but it was only $100!

We continue to work through a number of issues such as break relief RNs, retention, wages, PTO/EIB, and workplace violence prevention.

Contract Action Team Meeting

Please join us on July 10 on Zoom for another Contract Action Team meeting at either 8:30am or 6:00pm. All RNs at SMMC who are UFCW 3000 members are encouraged to attend.

Our next bargaining sessions are July 16 and July 24.

“They came in hot with a lot of nonsense about how patients being able to recognize an RN by scrub color promotes safety! The fact that they are emphasizing this over a safe number of patients per RN is absolutely wild!”- Janice
