UFCW Press Release Encouraging VP Harris to Pick Gov Tim Walz for Running Mate

UFCW 3000 strongly encourages Vice President Kamala Harris select Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for Vice President in 2024.

Governor Walz's leadership has been a beacon of progress for working people, and we believe he is the best choice to continue advancing the interests of workers across the nation.

We are encouraged by his endorsement from Senator Bernie Sanders, a leader who shares our values of fairness and justice for working families.

On the ballot in 2024 is democracy and the rights of workers to participate in our country. Under Governor Walz's leadership, he has expanded worker rights and access to democracy. His administration has championed key legislation that enhances the lives of working people, including:

Passed the “Democracy for the People Act” to allow 16 and 17 year olds to pre-register to vote, established automatic voter registration, allow voters to become permanent absentee, and expanded language access to voter materials.

Banned Captive Audience Meetings: Ensuring that workers are not coerced into anti-union meetings.

Eliminated Noncompete Agreements: Allowing workers to freely pursue new opportunities without restrictive clauses.

Empowered Teachers: Allowing educators to negotiate over student class sizes to ensure a better learning environment.

Guaranteed Paid Sick Days: Ensuring all workers have access to paid sick leave, a crucial benefit for maintaining health and well-being.

Governor Walz’s commitment to expanding democracy and protecting voting rights stands in sharp contrast to the troubling trend seen in other states where worker rights are being eroded. His proven track record of enacting progressive policies makes him an exceptional choice for continuing to fight for the rights and well-being of all workers across America.

Governor Walz's vision aligns with UFCW 3000’s mission to promote and protect workers' rights, and we are confident that his leadership will contribute positively to the Democratic ticket, and to the national dialogue on economic justice for all working people.
