Hudson News Bargaining Update
/On March 24 and 25, our union bargaining team met with Hudson representatives to continue contract negotiations. We made some on progress on non-economic issues including:
Union security and list reporting
Workplace safety that now requires a first aid kit to be in every store and stocked regularly
Immigration protections which provides workplace protections and union notification about immigration enforcement
We are still fighting for better scheduling practices, better staffing in our stores, and better wages and retirement. On March 25, we presented Hudson with our first initial economic proposal. This is going to change as negotiations move forward, but here are some highlights about what we proposed:
Improving break coverage to ensure that we can take our breaks on time and have bathroom coverage
Improving holiday language to include President’s Day, Juneteenth, all 5 calendar days before Thanksgiving and making all holidays paid at double time
Longevity vacation scheduling which provides members who have 20+ years with an additional 5 days of vacation and 30+ years an additional 10 days of vacation
Vacation rollover & now vacation time counting as time worked for sick time accrual
Sick time improvements for faster accrual: one and one half (1.5) hours of sick time accrued for every 40hrs worked
Securing our healthcare with additional funding from the Employer
A transition to a secure pension plan
Here is our initial wage scale proposal:
Longevity Pay:
Members working for 10 consecutive years will receive an additional $1
Members working for 20 consecutive years will receive an additional $2
Warehouse employees will continue to receive $1 above the retail scale
Hudson representatives said across the bargaining table that “we are Hudson, not Avolta”. We believe, if HMS Host and Hudson are one company, workers should be paid fairly at both companies!
We’re ready to fight for what we deserve and to not be treated less than our fellow union members at HMS Host.
