Saint Michael Medical Center RN Bargaining Update
/Bargaining Team: Kim Fraser, Pre-Op; Janice Brown, FBC; Meredith Francisco, Med Surg; Lindsey Gearllach, Obs; Tammy Olson, ICU
On Thursday, July 24 our Bargaining Team had a joint bargaining session with Management. We have continued to push them on our need for a wholistic approach to break relief. In our discussions Management has said that while they have no problem with a system that utilizes RNs for break relief, they do not believe the data reflects that all units on the night shift need them. We disagree with the Employer’s position. Many RNs feel pressured by Management into not reporting missed meal periods, while others are confused about how to properly report them due to unclear instructions on the timeclock.
This issue is not only about ensuring that nurses receive their legally required, uninterrupted meal breaks under Washington state law—it’s also a critical matter of patient safety and maintaining the integrity of the nurse staffing plan. That’s why we’ve also launched a community support letter to amplify our call for change. Please share with your friends and family that utilize services at Saint Michael Medical Center
We also continue to trade proposals on major economic issues such as wages, retirement, and other benefits.
