UFCW 3000 Member Story: Lori Johnson and Jill Lowe

Lori Johnson and Jill Lowe getting ready for the School Bus Road-e-o

North Mason School District students and families depend on reliable and safe transportation to and from school in an area where many homes are spread over a wide area. UFCW 3000 members driving buses for North Mason School District provide that transportation every school day with professionalism and pride. Recently some of those drivers competed in the Washington State Association of Pupil Transportation School Bus Road-e-o, including drivers Lori Johnson and Jill Lowe who placed 3rd in the overall competition!

Both of these drivers have worked for the School District since the early 2000s. Lori in addition to owning and operating a hair salon is a long time shop steward and had been on the bargaining committee during six different contract negotiations.

Drivers competed in bus maneuvering (backing a bus into a tight space is no joke!), safely stopping to pick-up students, emergency evacuations, and many other skills that they and their bus aides use everyday to safely transport students. Lori and Jill clearly have “the right stuff” to do the job and are some of the best school bus drivers in Washington State!
