St. Michael Medical Center RN We have reached an agreement!
/After six months of tough negotiations and a powerful, newsworthy informational picket, our determination paid off — we’ve reached a tentative agreement! After seventeen hours of bargaining, we were finally able to reach a settlement agreement around 3am on Tuesday, October 7!
Highlights of the agreement:
18.5% total wage increases (plus annual step increases) from 2025 through 2028:
12.5% in the first year alone (8.5% two pay periods after ratification + 4% in January 2026)
Secured employer retirement contributions for the life of the contract
Enhanced safety measures:
Daily safety rounding on the 3rd floor between the Charge RN and lead security officer
Weapons detection system in the Emergency Department by September 2026
New incentive pay at time-and-a-half for .6 FTEs and above who work on their day off
Higher premium pay rates, including the highest charge/resource premium in the region by the end of the contract
Incentive pay for filling vacant mandatory call and short-notice call shifts
Dedicated break relief nurses to ensure rest and recovery
Staffing concerns (CSIs) can be escalated to the Department of Health through the Hospital Staffing Committee
On top of the above we have all of our previous tentative agreements!
Our Union Bargaining Team recommends a “YES” vote!

This victory was made possible because nurses stood together. Every conversation at a Contract Action Team meeting, every nurse who walked the picket line, and every signature on a strike pledge card showed management that we were willing to fight to improve SMMC and patient care.
Your solidarity made the difference — and this contract shows it.
When we stand together, we win together.
