Providence Regional Medical Center Everett Professionals Bargaining Update & Contract Action Team Meeting!

Our union Bargaining Team [L-R]: Taylor Widener, Sr. Dietician; Holly Gramse; Physical Therapist; Sara Dillon; Sr. Discharge Planner (Case Manager)

"Compliance with the law is one thing — caving to fear is another. We expect Providence to stand up to bullies, not back down from doing what's right." -Sara Dillon; Sr. Discharge Planner & Bargaining Team Member

On Tuesday, April 8, we kicked off our third bargaining session with Providence by meeting with the employer first thing in the morning to review their counter proposals — including critical topics like an adequate number of free parking for PRMCE employees, improvements to the low census rotation process, and stronger protections for workplace safety and equal opportunity.

After reviewing management’s responses, our bargaining team immediately got to work drafting our own set of counter proposals. We also spent time in caucus drafting a formal response to the Memorandum of Understanding outlining our proposed protections for the Case Management department- holding firm on our position that management need to do more in terms of supporting & protecting employees during this transition. As part of Tuesday’s session, we also took time to carefully review surrounding union contracts at Swedish, UW, and several newly won agreements from Providence union members in Oregon. These insights helped us finalize our initial economic proposal, which includes:

  • Expanded access to paid time off for recognized holidays

  • Increases to premiums and differentials (e.g., evening and night shifts, certification pay, BSN, and preceptor pay)

  • A brand new extra shift incentive articlemodeled on the strong language PRMCE nurses secured in their most recent contract win!

During our afternoon session, management commented on our Equal Opportunity proposals to express concern that certain language- designed to protect workers- could, in their view, jeopardize federal funding due to recent executive orders; claiming it might make Providence an “obvious target.”

We want to be clear: this response is deeply troubling. Our bargaining team stands firm in our commitment to protecting every worker’s right to a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace.

Join our next Contract Action Team to strategize on how to build collective power and solidarity throughout negotiations, and stand together in pursuit of higher wages, improved benefits, and demanding stronger workplace protections for healthcare workers across Washington State.
