Providence Regional Medical Center Everett Technical Bargaining update

Our Union Bargaining Team: Maria Goodall, Vascular Technologist, Cris Cassady, IR Technologist, Terryl Smith, Pharmacy Technician, Noah Holland, Sr. Surgical Tech, Darryl Keffer, Respiratory Care Practitioner, Rodney Powers, Radiology Technologist

On Thursday, May 15, our union bargaining team met with Providence Everett management to continue negotiations on our 2025 union contract.

During our second day with the Employer, our team spent the morning doing a careful and thorough review of wages, premiums, and differentials that union Technical workers are earning at other hospitals & within regional healthcare systems around Washington State- and used this data to complete our initial wage & compensation proposal. In the early afternoon we brought this proposal to management and walked them through some of the key aspects of our compensation and wage scale proposal;

  1. An “Extra Shifts” incentive; structured similarly to the new nursing contract- when we work our FTE and then pick up additional hours- we believe this should come with a premium.

  2. Increases to many of the premiums & differentials in our contract- for instance, the evening & night shift differentials, & preceptor premium- additionally, we drafted all new language pertaining to the structure of Standby/On-Call pay, intended to compensate Technical workers who are called in only to be notified shortly thereafter that the case was canceled, and a higher standby pay premium for Technical workers who are expected to perform multiple job classifications’ work when they are called in.

  3. Most importantly; a significant proposal on our wages, which included a number of very key elements- like removing all “ghost steps” (steps where there is no increase for a continued year of experience); increasing the amount of all step increases, and consolidating the overall length of our wage scale, so Technical workers at Prov. Everett are getting more money in their pockets sooner.

“Our goal is to provide excellent care to our community and prioritize both patient and staff safety. We are confident that our proposals made it clear to management that in order to fix staffing issues and high turnover in our hospital, our compensation has to incentivize Technical workers to come to Prov. Everett and stay here”. Maria Goodall, Vascular Technologist
