Macy's Bargaining Update April 17, 2026

On April 14, 15, and 16 your Macy’s bargaining committee met with Macy’s management to negotiate a new contract. We made some progress on smaller contract language issues around vacation benefits, personal days, and Washington State’s Paid Family Medical Leave.

More importantly during the 3 days of bargaining we introduced our wage and commission proposals including:

  • General Wage Increases for each year of the contract

  • Substantial increases for all rates of commission and for Draw v. Commission deficit wipe off.

  • Rasing Macy’s minimum rates of pay above Washington State or city minimum wage laws.

We continued to reject employer proposals to:

  • Eliminate annual perfect attendance PTOs for those who don’t miss a day for an entire fiscal year,

  • Limiting our ability to transfer to other departments,

  • Narrowing the definition of domestic partnership in our contract for leaves to support loved ones.

While the bargaining committee was encouraged that we have made small steps towards progress, it is time for Macy’s union members to take action! While we waited for the employer to respond to our proposals, the committee spent time planning how we take action in our stores to fight for a fair contract.

The first step is building a Contract Action Team (CAT) and a network of workers to get the word out about when we are taking action. Committee members and union staff representatives will be talking to members over the coming weeks about building a community action network, and scheduling our first CAT meetings in your area!

“We need to start taking action to win better wages, better scheduling, and better stores for us and our customers.”- Curtisy Bryant Southcenter Beauty Colleague
