Grand Central Bakery Tentative Agreement Reached!

After months of negotiations, our Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement on June 16! We won because we were organized and prepared to take action to win a fair contract. Some of our contract wins include:

  • Raises for all workers with guaranteed wage increases for each year of the contract

  • 14-hour shift differential — preventing “clopening” shifts

  • 3 days of paid Bereavement leave

  • Just cause and grievance protections for workers that may be disciplined or terminated

  • Baker premiums, including on prep shifts

  • Protections for queer and trans workers

  • Strong Labor Management Committee (LMC) language, creating more opportunities to engage with management over workplace issues

  • $20 reimbursement for ORCA transit cards

  • 2 consecutive days off if you work more than 4 shifts a week

  • Structure for temporary work assignments in alternate classifications

  • And much more!

Our contract is only as strong as we enforce it. Once ratified, we will be holding shop steward training to provide training for those interested in stepping up to represent their coworkers in disciplinary meetings and help enforce their contract.

We will be scheduling a contract walkthrough soon to review the agreement prior to our vote dates. Please reach out to your bargaining team or Union Rep for more information. We will be working with the Employer on scheduling vote dates and will be sending a vote notice once those dates are confirmed.

Our Union Bargaining Team: Amelia (Burien) Fianna (Eastlake), Amanda (Wallingford), and Emi (Wedgwood). Our Union Rep is Chris Arellano (360) 409-0241.
