Grand Central Bakery Progress at the table but more movement is needed
/Our Union Bargaining Team: Emi (Wedgwood), Amelia (Burien), Amanda (Wallingford), Fianna (Eastlake),
Our Union Bargaining Team met with the Employer for back-to-back sessions on Monday and Tuesday, June 8 and 9.
We’ve reached tentative agreements on:
Paid bereavement leave
Baker premiums for non-Pastry Leads
14-hour rest period between scheduled shifts
Minimum 32 hours for Culinary Lead, Pastry Lead, Assistant Café Manager
Enshrining the practice of paying employees more who are stepping into a higher role temporarily
Hazard pay during a state of emergency
Though we’ve set a strong foundation, there’s more work to be done. The Employer’s proposed wage scale is far from what we deserve. We know that our Cafe Team Members deserve more than minimum wage. While the Employer has come closer to our wage proposals for Shift Leads, Culinary Leads, Pastry Leads, and Assistant Café Managers, their hard work also deserves appropriate compensation.
Employer’s Wage Scale Proposal:
| Job Title/Classification | First Pay Period Following Ratification | 08/01/2027 | 08/01/2028 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Café Team Member | Seattle Minimum Wage (21.30) | Seattle Minimum Wage (TBD) | Seattle Minimum Wage (TBD) |
| Shift Lead | 4.0% (22.13) | 4.0% (23.04) | 4.0% (23.95) |
| Culinary Lead/Pastry Lead | 4.5% (23.31) | 4.0% (24.25) | 4.0% (25.91) |
| Assistant Café Manager | 7.0% (25) | 5.0% (26.25) | 5.0% (27.56) |
Join our Bargaining Team to organize around a better wage scale.
We’ll be meeting this Friday, June 12, at 6:30pm. Check in with your bargaining team or union rep to get more details!
We have two more scheduled bargaining sessions on June 15th and June 16th. If you’re unable to attend, reach out to our Bargaining Team to let your voice be heard!
