Payless Foods Grocery & Meat Contracts Ratified!
On July 17, workers at Payless Foods in Freeland voted and overwhelmingly ratified our new Grocery and Meat Contracts! Our member led Bargaining Team negotiated a two year contract that gets us back to the table sooner to keep ahead of inflation.
Key wins include:
Highest average annual wage increases ever! $2.70 over 2 years with $1.50 right away for Journey. Increases that maintain our position as a higher-than-market wage grocery store, recognize the value of our work, and keep our contract competitive.
Successorship language: Ensures the benefits of our contract remain intact if the store is sold to new ownership.
Additional Employer funding to maintain health care benefits: Preserving the quality and affordability of our health coverage.
Protection of our pension: Funding secured to keep our pension plan strong for current and future retirees.
Paid time to complete required food handler permits: Ensuring we are paid for the time needed to maintain this job requirement.
Career Courtesy Clerk and Helper Clerk premium: Recognizing the dedication and experience of workers in these classifications with a premium for those with 10+ years as Courtesy Clerks or Helper Clerks.
Meat Cutter Scale reduced from 3 years to 2 years: Allowing members to reach the top wage rate more quickly.
