Olympic Medical Center - OMC Support Services and Pro-Tech Unit will be receiving retroactive pay!

2020 0928 - OMC Update.jpg

Due to COVID-19, we were not able to hold an in-person contract ratification vote for the Pro-Tech and Support Services units. UFCW 21 has been conducting all contract ratification votes via mail-in ballots.

But due to the staffing shortages and reduction in machines within the United States Postal Service, ballots and returned ballots were extremely delayed. We have been in talks with OMC to implement the new contract wage increases before the dates the two contracts were ratified and OMC has agreed!

Retroactive bonus pay shall be dispersed on the October 9 paycheck. OMC sent out an email last week listing how the retroactive pay would be calculated.

If you have any questions about your retroactive pay or believe it is incorrect, please contact your Union Rep Aimee Oien (360) 662-1981.

St. Michael Medical Center Pro-Tech - Tentative Agreement Reached, Bargaining Team Recommends a YES Vote!

2020 0917 - St. Michael Vote Notice.jpg

Your Bargaining Team has finally reached an agreement with St. Michael Medical Center. It’s been a long and difficult fight, however, a safety focused campaign successfully pressured managament into a historic contract that we cannot wait to share with everyone! The tentative agreement includes:

  • Historic wage increases and ratification bonus for ALL members,

  • Significant injection of cash into our 401k retirement plans,

  • Emergency committee meetings to address pandemic safety issues,

  • NO HEALTHCARE TAKEAWAYS

  • Improved language regarding schedule posting, recognition of past-experience, benefit accruals, and so much more!

Now it’s time to vote to approve your new contract!

Due to the current health crisis we will be conducting the ratification vote through mail-in ballots. We will be sending out a vote packet with your ballot and details about the proposed changes to the mailing address we have on file. Please reach out to your Union Representative if you do not receive your vote packet by October 1, 2020.

We will be holding a contract vote meeting to explain the tentative agreement via Zoom on Tuesday, October 6 from 8AM – 10AM, 12PM – 2PM, and 5PM – 7PM.

Instructions to join will be included in your vote packet.

St. Anne Hospital Pro-Tech - Bargaining Continues

2020 0813 - St. Anne Update.jpg

“We are very disappointed with the lack of movement from the Employer.”

OUR BARGAINING TEAM: Michelle Grennan, Kimberly Matson, and Miroslava Dashkel.

Your Bargaining Team met with Management again on August 5 and 10. Unfortunately, very little progress was made towards an agreement.

Management has begun to drag their feet as they refuse to make any meaningful movement on outstanding issues. They have outright rejected many of our proposals such as reimbursements for maintaining licensure, a clearly defined process for receiving certification pay, and a new COVID-19 hazard premium.

Furthermore, they haven’t moved much on their original economic package that, while generous to some, includes wage DECREASES for others. When confronted about the wage reductions for some members Management claims it was never their intention, however, they continue to include it in their economic proposals!

We will have no choice but to take action if the Employer continues this behavior when we return to negotiations on September 1.

Olympic Medical Center ProTech - Contract Vote Notice

OMC ProTech, your contract vote ballots are due on August 14. The due dates for ballots was omitted from the original notice. As a result, we are sending out this notice. Please send back your ballots via mail to PO Box 80682, Seattle, WA 98108 by August 14 (postmarked) in order for your vote to be counted.

If you have any questions please contact your Union Rep, Aimee Oien 360-662-1981

Olympic Medical Center - ProTech - Contract Vote Scheduled

2020 0629 - OMC Vote Notice.jpg

Your Professional-Technical Unit Bargaining Team has reached a fully recommended tentative agreement with Olympic Medical Center! We have been bargaining over wages, working conditions, and the short-term disability program since May 2020. During bargaining, we did an analysis of our wages compared to the surrounding hospitals and other rural hospitals in the area. OMC proposed to retire our “short term disability” program and we gave this a lot of thought. Our short-term disability program provides 60% or 75% wage compensation per week. We fought to keep our plan but heard from the unit that wages should take priority. In addition, the new Washington Paid Family Medical Leave provides a higher benefit and accrual than our current short-term disability program.

There are more details to our tentative agreement, which we will go over in depth via a Zoom video webinar on July 9 at 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM (the link will be included with the vote documents). Please join us on either date to ask questions and go over the vote documents.  Given the pandemic, we are unable to hold an in-person contract ratification vote and will be doing a mail-in ballot. The Union will be mailing and posting the vote documents on the UFCW 21 website through the link provided below.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our union representative, Aimee Oien at aoien@ufcw21.org or our negotiator, Evelyn Orantes-Fogel at eorantesfogel@ufcw21.org.

St. Michael Medical Center Pro-Tech - Important Upcoming Dates

2020 0629 - St. Michael Update WEB.jpg

During this round of negotiations we were able to win fair double time language for members working 10-hour shifts and, in addition, new “donning and doffing” language that provides eight minutes of paid time at the start and end of each shift to change in and out of hospital-required attire. However, the employer continues to make unacceptable wage proposals and has maintained their attacks on our affordable healthcare. We made clear to managament that if this behavior continues then we will have no choice but to bring our fight to the community.

Please join our upcoming Contract Action Team (CAT) meetings to get the latest updates and learn how we can win a fair contact. These meetings will be held virtually through Zoom.

PRO-TECH UPDATE

Your Bargaining Team met with Management again on May 5, 12, and 14. We have come to agreements with the employer to improve language regarding schedule posting, promotions, new hire orientation, and safety.

However, we are still fighting the employer to protect our Union healthcare, maintain successorship language that has protected our contract through recent mergers, create a member driven emergency preparedness team, and fair wage increases that keep Harrison Medical Center market competitive. Our next bargaining dates are June 5, 12, and 14.

If you have any questions, please contact your Union Rep Aimee Oien @ 360-662-1981.

SERVICE & DIETARY UPDATE

Your Bargaining Team met with Management on May 8 and achieved improvements on schedule postings, new hire orientation, safety, and won a new short-term personal leave benefit.

However, we continue to fight Management to maintain successorship language that has protected our contract through recent mergers, ensure adequate training for new hires, job positing transparency, create a member driven emergency preparedness team, and fair wage increases that keep Harrison Medical Center market competitive. Our next bargaining date is May 19.

If you have any questions, please contact your Union Rep Ryan Degouveia @ 360-662-1989.

UFCW 21 Providence Workers’ Votes Announced

UFCW 21 Providence Workers’ Votes Announced

“We showed that through unity, and a commitment to our patients and each other that we could win a fair contract that is better for patient care and safety, better for staffing and better for the future of our hospitals.”

*The changes are reflective of wins across our union’s Providence bargaining units. Specifics may vary by location.

The Tentative Agreement reached held the line on every one of the employer’s takeaways including:

  • NO cuts to our paid time off/sick leave that would have taken millions of dollars from years of our earned benefits

  • ONLY accepting the new leave system after significant improvements and where it benefits us—at Holy Family and St. Mary’s

  • NO changes to our health care

We fought for and won:

  • Improved safety standards for workers so we can be safe at work

  • Improved staffing levels so we can take care of our patients with enough co-workers on shift

  • Significant wage increases for every scale so we can better recruit and retain high quality staff at all our hospitals

  • Ratification bonus payments

  • Many market adjustments and increases to premiums to make sure we are fairly compensated and our workplaces remain competitive

  • Better language in our contract to increase our power as unionized workers so we can stand up to Providence in the future and push back against their attempts to intimidate

  • Lines up contract expirations in a way that will allow us to take action together in greater numbers in the next round of negotiations

Now the time has come for members at each location to vote. At their vote meeting, members will review the full details of the proposed new contract, get questions answered and vote.

BACKGROUND:

We started out as nine different negotiations across our one union. For months we got essentially nowhere and we were suffering from an increasing number of Unfair Labor Practices. Then we started to turn that around. We coordinated actions across our union, took strike authorization votes and developed a Unity commitment with SEIU Healthcare 1199 NW and WSNA. We worked together and ramped up the pressure on Providence to change. They still didn’t move. And then just hours before we collectively would have issued our 10-day notices to strike, we had a breakthrough. Together. This was followed by around the clock negotiations and ongoing unity that resulted in historic Tentative Agreements being reached across all of our bargaining units. We did it together. We remain committed to supporting SEIU healthcare 1199 NW until they reach a Tentative Agreement. And we are committed to keeping up with this collective spirit to enforce our contracts and negotiate together again in years ahead.
