Olympic Medical Center (ProTech and Support Services) - BARGAINING CONTINUES

Olympic Medical Center (ProTech and Support Services)
BARGAINING CONTINUES

Bargaining continued on Tuesday, September 5. We had discussions about job descriptions and wage disparities for Support Services workers and are trying to understand why some positions are paid at a higher rate which are essentially the same as other lower paid positions. Responses from Management did not specifically address our concerns.

We presented Management with a strong wage, premium, and benefits package for ProTech workers to retain current employees and recruit new ones to fill the huge staffing void. Management’s response was a modest increase to their previous proposal. They suggested we meet with the CEO, Darryl Wolfe, next session to review hospital finances.

This is unacceptable! We need to let Management know that we cannot and will not continue to work for less. We are working harder than ever, covering for multiple unfilled positions, adding stress to our work and our personal lives.

Support Services Workers: We are circulating a letter/petition to send Management. Talk to a Bargaining Team member or to Union Rep Aimee Oien.

Wear our sticker to show Management that we deserve a fair contract!

Everyone can get a sticker from a Bargaining Team member or Union Rep Aimee Oien @ 360-662-1981.

“Support Services is vital to OMC and their profits. We deserve a fair and livable wage and will fight as one until we get it.” —Deviney Blore

“We’re still miles apart, their last offer does not promote retention and recruitment.” —Josh Johnston

“Where OMC is at, there is no doubt we will continue to lose coworkers to neighboring hospitals worsening the financial situation and morale.” —Rob Elofson-Golbert

“OMC is asking us to take far less than they have given other contracts recently.” —Patty Wood

“It’s hard to provide excellence working for an organization that gives us less than minimum.”—Hector Pozernick

Waiting for Management’s response to our proposals

We had a full Bargaining session with Management at Olympic Medical Center on July 13.

Our Union Bargaining Team has proposed to significantly increase wages and other compensation as well as addressing huge challenges around staffing. We have made many other proposals to improving processes and work—life balance.

Although Management has been friendly, we still haven’t received many proposals from them. We hope to have a better understanding of their priorities when they respond. We meet again on Friday, July 28.

Olympic Medical Center - Bargaining Begins at Olympic Medical Center

Bargaining has begun for Pro-Tech and Support Services workers.

Your Bargaining Team has met several times to create contract proposals that address the challenges of retaining and recruiting workers. Low wages are at the center of the staffing crisis, resulting in long hours of work for the dedicated staff who are the foundation of OMC.

OMC needs to offer competitive wages and benefits that will not only get workers, but also keep them. Staffing issues need to be addressed, including the high number of travelers who have no commitment to the community.

On Friday, June 23, we had a full day of bargaining and made both economic and non-economic proposals.

Management seemed interested in what we had to say, but have not yet given any response to our proposals. The next bargaining date is July 13.

Olympic Home Health Bargaining Begins!

On Thursday, March 23 members of the Union Bargaining Team met with Management to begin negotiations for our new Union Contract.

As part of this meeting, each team member talked about their role and the roles of their coworkers in the organization and made sure that Management understood how vitally important Home Health employees are to the success of Olympic Medical and to the community.

“We submitted a comprehensive economic and non-economic proposal. We are hopeful that Management will come back a fair and equitable response that brings us closer to hospital standards.”

Our next bargaining date is April 17 where will expect Management to respond to our proposals.

Olympic Medical Center MOU ratified!

Olympic Medical Center

Memorandum of understanding ratified by OMC workers!

On October 11, the Healthcare Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was ratified with overwhelming support.

What does this mean for you? As Olympic Medical Center transitions everyone’s healthcare back to PEBB from Premera, you will see a $100 lump sum deposited into your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in January 2023 to help offset any cost during transition. You will be able to use this $100 lump sum immediately starting in January 2023.

If you have any questions, please contact your Union Representative Aimee Oien at 360-662-1981.

Olympic Medical Center - Market Increases for PAS!

We have reached an agreement with Olympic Medical Center to increase pay rates for patient access services (PAS) to recruit and retain staff. This market adjustment is uncommon since our union contract expires on June 2023. We requested that Olympic Medical Center act to fix our recruitment and retention issues, to which they agreed. We will be entering full contract negotiations in Spring 2023 where we will be fighting for competitive wage increases and improving contract language.

Below are the details of the agreement:

  • Patient Access Representative I and II (PAS Rep I and II) will convert into a single Patient Access Representative position: all current PAS Reps I and II will move to grade 50 (base rate of $18.10)

  • Patient Access Specialist: increase from grade 65 (base of $18.91) to grade 74 (base rate of $19.94)

  • New position of Patient Access Senior Specialist: grade 75 (base of $20.65)

Your bargaining committee is recommending a “YES” vote on these changes!

We will vote on May 30 online from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You will receive a vote link via email from “Simply Vote.” In order to vote, you must be a union member in good standing and must have a valid email on file with UFCW. Olympic Medical Center - OMC Support Services and Pro-Tech Unit will be receiving retroactive pay!

2020 0928 - OMC Update.jpg

Due to COVID-19, we were not able to hold an in-person contract ratification vote for the Pro-Tech and Support Services units. UFCW 21 has been conducting all contract ratification votes via mail-in ballots.

But due to the staffing shortages and reduction in machines within the United States Postal Service, ballots and returned ballots were extremely delayed. We have been in talks with OMC to implement the new contract wage increases before the dates the two contracts were ratified and OMC has agreed!

Retroactive bonus pay shall be dispersed on the October 9 paycheck. OMC sent out an email last week listing how the retroactive pay would be calculated.

If you have any questions about your retroactive pay or believe it is incorrect, please contact your Union Rep Aimee Oien (360) 662-1981.

2020 0803 - OMC Service Notice.jpg

Our Bargaining Team for Support Services has reached an agreement with OMC. We began bargaining in late June 2020 due to the pandemic. Our main concerns during bargaining were wages and ensuring that we fixed the wage compression given the increased State hourly minimum rate. Initially OMC proposed lower increases than we expected given the loss in revenue due to the pandemic. But at the end, we were able to fight and win higher increases than in past contracts!

The next step is to vote to approve the contract. We will be sending out a second notice with a vote date/time or we will be running a mail-in ballot contract vote. Please update your email/address on our website in order to receive your vote documents.

We will be holding a contract vote meeting to explain the tentative agreement via Zoom on August 18, from 8AM - 9PM and 5PM - 6PM.

If you have any question, please contact your Union Rep, Aimee Oien @ 360-662-1981.

Olympic Medical Center - ProTech - Contract Vote Scheduled

2020 0629 - OMC Vote Notice.jpg

Your Professional-Technical Unit Bargaining Team has reached a fully recommended tentative agreement with Olympic Medical Center! We have been bargaining over wages, working conditions, and the short-term disability program since May 2020. During bargaining, we did an analysis of our wages compared to the surrounding hospitals and other rural hospitals in the area. OMC proposed to retire our “short term disability” program and we gave this a lot of thought. Our short-term disability program provides 60% or 75% wage compensation per week. We fought to keep our plan but heard from the unit that wages should take priority. In addition, the new Washington Paid Family Medical Leave provides a higher benefit and accrual than our current short-term disability program.

There are more details to our tentative agreement, which we will go over in depth via a Zoom video webinar on July 9 at 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM (the link will be included with the vote documents). Please join us on either date to ask questions and go over the vote documents.  Given the pandemic, we are unable to hold an in-person contract ratification vote and will be doing a mail-in ballot. The Union will be mailing and posting the vote documents on the UFCW 21 website through the link provided below.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our union representative, Aimee Oien at aoien@ufcw21.org or our negotiator, Evelyn Orantes-Fogel at eorantesfogel@ufcw21.org.

Olympic Home Health Contract Vote

2020 0305 Olympia Home Health vote.jpg

Olympic Home Health has reached an agreement The Committee fully recommends a “YES” vote

On February 26, the home health bargaining committee reached a tentative agreement with Management. We won across-the-board increases and market adjustment increases for half of the unit, including nurses and therapists. In addition, we won improvements to current contract language like: grievance process, required per diem work, and preceptor pay. Also due to the implementation of the new WA Paid Family Medical Leave program which everyone has access to 12 weeks of paid leave, OMHH will be changing the short term disability plan. In order to explain the changes precisely, we encourage everyone to attend the ratification vote. The full details of the tentative agreement will be made available on the ratification vote day. If you have any questions please contact your union representative: Aimee Oien (360)662-1981.
