St. Michael Medical Center RN Overwhelmingly Approve the Contract!

RNs Overwhelmingly Approve the Contract!

On October 17, a strong majority of RNs voted to ratify our new contract! After six months of negotiations, we now have a stronger agreement that improves wages, safety, and working conditions.

While bargaining has concluded, our work continues — now through enforcement and active participation in hospital committees such as:

  • Hospital Staffing Committee

  • Nurse Conference Committee (Labor-Management Committee)

  • Safety Committee

These committees address staffing levels, safety concerns, and other workplace issues specific to each unit. We’re looking for volunteers to participate — your time is paid by the hospital, and you will be released from work to attend. If you are interested in being part of a committee or a shop steward, please contact Ryan Degouveia at 360-662-1981.

Below are some important dates and highlights of the new contract:

  • 8.5% increase effective the pay period starting November 9th (two pay periods after ratification)

  • 4% increase effective January 4, 2026

  • Daily safety rounding on the 3rd floor between the Charge RN and Lead Security Officer

  • Weapons detection system in the Emergency Department by September 2026

  • Personal safety devices available to all nurses who request one within 30 days of October 17

  • New incentive pay at time-and-a-half for nurses working above their FTE:

    • Begins November 9 for 0.9–1.0 FTE RNs

    • Begins no later than 120 days from October 17 for 0.6 FTEs (timeclock programming required)

  • Incentive pay for filling vacant mandatory call and short-notice call shifts.

  • Dedicated break relief nurses for day shift inpatient areas, including OR and ED, beginning three months from October 17th

  • Entry doors on the 6th, 7th, and 8th floors of the new tower to be installed by August 1, 2026 (pending Fire Marshal approval)

We are working on the final formatting of the contract and will have it signed as soon as possible.
