QFC Solidarity! LOU Ratified!

On Friday, Sept 19, UFCW 3000 QFC grocery store workers under the King/Snohomish grocery, King/Kitsap meat, and Snohomish meat contracts ratified a Letter of Understanding (LOU) that allows displaced Fred Meyer members to retain their hard-earned union seniority and benefits if they accept open positions at QFC stores under those contracts.

The workers transferring into those QFC stores would come from the Fred Meyer stores slated for closure, FM #95 Everett, FM #172 Kent, FM #179 Lake City, and FM #664 Redmond.

Impacted Fred Meyer members who work under grocery contracts will not retain their seniority if they accept an open position at a Teamsters 38-represented QFC in Snohomish County but are able to transfer without seniority rights. Since UFCW 3000 represents meat departments at Snohomish County QFCs, impacted meat department members will retain their seniority and benefits, though.

With this vote, QFC members stood in solidarity with coworkers whose jobs were put at risk by Kroger’s decision to close stores, strengthening our union and our power at the bargaining table.
