Uwajimaya bargaining update

Our Union Bargaining Team: Aaron Powers, Uwajimaya Bellevue; Middle- Jesse Marlar, Uwajimaya Seattle; Right- Ashley Toshi, Uwajimaya Renton

On February 5 & 6, our member led Bargaining Team returned to the table with Uwajimaya and made progress on many non economic issues. Uwajimaya also made their first economic proposal which raised concerns about key priorities for our Bargaining Team.

We are fighting for:

  • Wage scales that are equitable no matter what city you work in

  • The ability to enforce wage scales that reflect current market wages

  • Maintaining our industry leading health care

  • Protecting our employer-funded pensions so we can count on our retirement being well funded

Uwajimaya’s initial economic offer leaves us with concerns about:

  • Wages not keeping up with the rest of the industry

  • Our health care being not being fully funded so we don’t have cuts to coverages and increased out of pocket expenses

  • A pension proposal that would shift the burden of contribution increases from the employer, to you

We need to let Uwajimaya know that we are not going to settle for less!

We have requested additional bargaining dates from Uwajimaya and will update you when they are set.
