UFCW 3000 Member Story: Elisabeth
/Workers should always check their paycheck and make sure that they are getting everything they are owed as an employee. When we have a union contract with wage scales, premiums, and specialty rates, that goes double because the grievance procedure can make us whole when the numbers don’t add up.
Registered Nurse Elisabeth Meyer works at the Colby Campus of Providence Everett. Recently when she looked at her check stub, she noticed that it was missing premium pay for certifications owed to her under the union contract. She immediately researched past pay stubs and realized the premium had stopped a few pay cycles ago. She made sure she had proof that she submitted her certifications accordingly and then reached out to management requesting a correction. Providence was willing to correct the pay going forward but refused her any retro pay. She contacted UFCW 3000 and a grievance was filed.
UFCW 3000 staff working in the Member Resource Center pursued the matter through two steps of the grievance process before Providence agreed to make her whole for $1,700 of lost pay.
