PCC After 12 Sessions, It’s Time for a Fair Contract Now!

Even after 12 sessions of bargaining, PCC’s administrators are nowhere close to living up to co-op values we all share.

On Feb 25 and 26, our rank-and-file Bargaining Team met with PCC yet again, and yet again we saw little movement from them.

We want to strengthen worker democracy at our co-op, but PCC wants to eliminate the Worker Caucus Committee (WCC) and only extend our Labor Management Committee (LMC) by another contract cycle, which would weaken our voice.

They’ve also failed to engage in a meaningful conversation around the co-op’s outsourcing, which we believe poses a real threat to PCC’s image and success. We’re known for our world-class deli, but if administrators keep outsourcing, then we’ll be no different than some corporate chain.

If they only wanted to meet industry standards, then the least they could do is follow the lead of the corporate chains and make a long-term commitment to contribute to the training programs we’ve developed through WeTrain, but they’re not even doing that! Those funds are critical, as they sustain current apprenticeship programs and build new ones that help us build stable, fulfilling careers in an industry that profits on burnout.

We simply do not see the respect that we deserve in their proposals:

We also don’t see them proposing wages that keep up with the cost of living, nor do we see adequate contributions to our health care and retirement plans.

“PCC profits are the unpaid wages to the employees” — Greg Brooks, Burien PCC
