Summit Pacific Medical Center - Community Petition Delivered to the Board of Commissioners!

2020 1221 - Summit Pacific Update.jpg

On Friday, December 18, one of our community members and union supporters presented a petition of support for our bargain with 105 signatures from our community.

Our Bargaining Team spoke at the meeting as well about safety and wage concerns at Summit.

We plan to continue sharing our stories at the table and at future board meetings!

At the bargaining table we got more of the same from Management. They continue to claim they want to recognize people who go above and beyond, but instead of offering incentives for folks who do good work, they’d rather permanently punish anyone they might arbitrarily discipline for any reason.

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Bargaining Team Fighting for All Workers

2020 1214 - Summit Pacific Update.jpg

This Friday, we reached a tentative agreement on establishing our Labor Management Committee (LMC). This is a group of members that will meet at least quarterly with Management to address issues that come up between bargaining cycles. If you’re interested in joining any committees where we have won seats for union members, please let your rep, Nicholas, know.

The union is fighting for compensation for those of us who go above and beyond and receive additional education and certifications, but administration is denying our proposals to recognize exceptional skills and abilities. For example, they do not include tech/service workers in proposals around educational leave and certification pay. Our Bargaining Team will not back down.

Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN, Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist; Barbara Ford—ED HUC; Alicia Wood—RN, ED

Our fight also continues to increase our PTO accruals to account for holidays. Share your story on how current PTO levels have impacted you. Your stories make a difference at the bargaining table!

Summit Pacific Medical Center - The Hard Work Continues

2020 1116 - Summit Pacific Update.jpg

We reached tentative agreements today on seniority as well as per diem scheduling and availability. More importantly we responded to Management’s bad economic proposals. Our Bargaining Team is holding our position on holiday pay, wage increases, and we are still refusing to allow discipline to affect our pay.

Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN, Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist; Barbara Ford—ED HUC; Jeff Redmond—ED Tech; Alicia Wood—RN, ED

Our next bargaining date is December 4.

Join us on Tuesday, November 17 @ 7:30 PM for a contract action meeting with other area bargaining teams!

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Continuing to Bargain

2020 1109 - Summit Pacific Update.jpg

Our Union Bargaining Team met with Management on November 6 to continue negotiating our first contract. Although we made some movement at the table we still have concerns around Safety, Staffing, Job Security, Wages and Benefits. We were able to secure some additional bargaining dates and will meet again on November 13.

We also had our Contract Action Team meetings on November 4. We discussed how we can band together with other teams in bargaining so that we can win strong contracts across the area. We also started planning to take action for a fair contract at Summit in December.

Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN, Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist; Barbara Ford—ED HUC; Jeff Redmond—ED Tech; Alicia Wood—RN, ED

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Summit’s Management Delivers Economic Proposals

2020 1026 - Summit Pacific Update.jpg

We heard Management’s response to our economic proposals today. We clearly identified in our proposals what needs to change about our PTO system, shift differentials, and wage scales. Management is only interested in maintaining status quo and creating division in our union workforce.

On top of that, they did not respond to our majority petition we delivered last bargaining session around COVID safety.

Our next bargaining date is November 6!

Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN, Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist; Barbara Ford—ED HUC; Jeff Redmond—ED Tech; Alicia Wood—RN, ED

2020 1009 - Summit Pacific Update.jpg

Today in bargaining we delivered our COVID petition for stronger safety precautions and hazard pay. A solid majority of our bargaining unit signed!

We also were able to reach agreements on some important contract provisions including:

  • Union recognition

  • Union access – our rep’s ability to visit to address worksite issues

  • Rules and rights for disciplinary & investigatory meetings

  • Duration of contract – 3 years

RSVP to join us at our next Contract Action (CAT) Meeting on October 16 at 3:30PM or 6:30PM for a more in-depth update.

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Bargaining Continues

ALL PROPOSALS ARE ON THE TABLE! This is a milestone in our negotiations and brings us much closer to a final agreement!

THE UNION PROPOSES HUGE WAGE INCREASES to account for the missed cost of living and longevity increases that happened this summer. Now the ball is in Management’s court.

NOW’S THE TIME TO SHOW OUR STRENGTH! Only in coming together with our coworkers are we going to be able to demonstrate to management that we have the power! SIGN OUR PETITION TODAY!

Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN, Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist; Barbara Ford—ED HUC; Jeff Redmond—ED Tech; Alicia Wood—RN, ED

OUR NEXT BARGAINING DATE IS ON OCT 9!

Summit Pacific - Management is Stalling

2020 0915 - Summit Pacific.jpg

Our Union presented Management with many proposals but unfortunately Management failed to respond to any of them. Our Bargaining Team has been working to address the COVID MOU with Summit and Summit disputes the facts the Union has presented of their mismanagement.

We have been working to the best of our ability to get a contract in place, but Summit Management continues to not work in a timely matter, delaying their responses and not providing enough dates. Summit has only offered us two dates in October and November. Management is not willing to work with the Bargaining Team to find additional dates for us to work on getting this contract completed.

“Stand with your co-workers, community, and patients for the safety of all of us and sign our petition!”

— Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN (Left), Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist (Right); Barbara Ford—ED HUC (Center); Jeff Redmond—ED Tech; Alicia Wood—RN, ED

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Proposed Improvement in COVID Protections and Practices

2020 0818 - Summit Pacific.jpg

Our Bargaining Team proposed improvements to our COVID agreement with Summit around:

  • Paid administrative leave while waiting for COVID test results

  • Improvements for notification of exposure to COVID

  • Premium pay for Respiratory Care Unit

Management has been consistently denying our proposals around safety, so we expect them to put up a fight about our health and safety concerns now too.

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Incremental Progress - Management's Roadblocks Remain

2020 0810 - Summit Pacific.jpg

Management is ready to contractually recognize our union, and we’re making some progress in other areas like having access to union information in our workplaces.

Management is holding fast to proposals telling us how to run our union. They’re pretending to remain neutral but discouraging employees from joining the union. They’d also like to limit how we can fight back when they violate our contract.

Summit Pacific Medical Center - Management Sets the Tone for Negotiations

2020 0803 - Summit Pacific.jpg

While we did make progress and come to agreement on some basic contract provisions, it’s clear that there is a lot of work ahead of us.

Management has made some alarming proposals around seniority and our access to union representation. They are also currently rejecting our common sense language around safety and nondiscrimination.

“Management seems more concerned about their rights than ours”

— Our Bargaining Team: Angi Swinhart—RN (Below Left), Clinic; Kristen Frazer—Registration Specialist (Below Right); Barbara Ford—ED HUC (Below Center); Jeff Redmond—ED Tech; Alicia Wood—RN, ED
