PCC Is Still Stalling

On Jan 20, our member-led Bargaining Team came to the table expecting meaningful progress. However, PCC only moved a few half-steps forward. They proposed:

  • Increasing our health care costs, including doubling our deductible and max out-of-pocket costs over the life of the agreement

  • A minimal raise for those at the bottom of the pay scale outside of Seattle, a far cry from our goal of establishing one scale for all

  • A $2 raise for Journey Grocery Clerks and $2.05 for Journey Meat Cutters and Wrappers over the next two years

  • No automatic promotion for Helper Clerks or significant increases

None of that is what we need. Nevertheless, our team started working through those proposals and made the following counter-proposals on other issues, including:

  • Better staff discounts

  • A tentative agreement to align leave policies with state law

  • A process to improve communication between the Workers Committee Caucus and Labor Management Committee to give workers more of a voice in decision-making

  • Stronger language on racial justice and immigration

“PCC keeps calling it ‘bargaining,’ but when wages lag and health benefits crumble, it’s only a bargain for them—not for the workers who make the place run.” – Erick Orozco
