PCC Won’t Move, So We Will!
/After demonstrating our growing unity and determination with six successful informational pickets across the Puget Sound, our member-led Bargaining Team returned to table with PCC on April 30 to reclaim our co-op for the workers and members who built this place.
Unfortunately, the proposals that PCC leadership presented showed us they have no interest in meeting the needs of their workforce. They continue to fall short on three key issues: protecting workers against ICE, achieving Helper Clerk wage parity, and allowing union members to choose their representatives on our Labor Management Committee (LMC).
Even as businesses across our region pledge to become Fourth Amendment workplaces, PCC continues to decline this call, leaving workers to labor under ongoing uncertainty.
At the same time, PCC insists on restrictive contract language that would give management control over who can staff LMC committees while outright rejecting wage parity for Helper Clerks. PCC should lead the industry and continue paying workers above standard. Instead, their latest wage proposals for Journey Clerks fall short of what workers at corporate competitors such as Safeway and Fred Meyer agreed to, and they fail to provide any increase for Helper Clerks at the top of the wage scale.
“After 16 sessions, our employer still refuses to offer backpay and support for our Helper Clerks both inside and outside of Seattle. We all deserve to be paid for our work, and all of us deserve a wage increase, regardless of position. Your Bargaining Team remains dedicated to winning fair and more equitable wages.” —Dan Polking, Fremont
PCC requested a mediator at the table, so now we must wait until all parties can agree on a date before we resume bargaining. In the meantime, get active!
