Macy’s We Don’t Need a Lecture on Affordability, We Need a Fair Contract Now!
/Over three days of negotiations that began on June 23, our Union Bargaining Team proposed two new packages that would deliver a living wage, dependable health care, and better working conditions for all. Instead of offering a serious counter-proposal, Macy’s Management offered health care takeaways and a lecture on the affordability crisis.
Their offer included:
Increasing their wage proposal by only $0.25 over the entire three-year contract;
Removing the PTO for perfect attendance;
Limiting our ability to transfer positions within the company and the store;
Eliminating domestic partner protections and benefits currently in our contract;
New authority to change our health insurance with no input from union members.
After once again rejecting our proposal to pay at least $0.20 over the prevailing minimum wage, Management launched into a lecture about our “costly” proposals adding an “administrative burden” to the company as inflation rises.
So it seems like Macy’s only believes the affordability crisis applies to them, not to the workers they’re short-changing.
This is unacceptable! We need a fair contract, not attempts to shame us into accepting substandard proposals.
