We have been bargaining over wages and premiums. Management has proposed a different wage increase percentage for every job, and some jobs have various percentages depending on the step. For some steps and jobs, the increases are significant, and for other steps and jobs the proposed increases are low. We are continuing to propose competitive wages that can retain and recruit, keeping the hospital fully staffed.
Management is claiming (again) that they are interested in being average or "in the middle" for pay as compared to other local hospitals. This has been their stated goal for several contract cycles, but we know how challenging it is to constantly be understaffed. We carry the load as the hospital continues to undercut employees.

We focused on economics Friday as we bargained with management. Their initial wage proposal did not align with other local hospitals. Our response was a market-competitive proposal that takes into account the rising cost of living and the challenges of retaining and recruiting workers. We talked about differentials and premiums, along with the role of preceptor, student coordinator, and the importance of paying wages that recognize past experience.

Read MoreWe bargained with management Friday and made proposals to significantly improve our compensation, including wages, paid time off (PTO), premiums, and differentials. The hospital seemed surprised when we stated that Harbor Regional Health (HRH) has fallen far behind every other hospital in the area. The cost of living has risen and continues to rise. We are seeing more of our coworkers leave to work at hospitals with higher compensation, and that leaves us with a severe staffing shortage. Management gave us a response to our Staffing proposal, and our former Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) talked about the Hospital Staffing Committee.
We anticipate a response from management at our next bargaining session on April 23.

We are hoping to negotiate productively with the hospital and find a path towards competitive wages and sustainable staffing.

After reviewing your surveys and meeting with other workers to talk about how we can strengthen our contract, we had our first bargaining session with HRH Management on Tuesday March 11.

After months of being severely understaffed and unable to hire, HRH is starting to make the connection and come to the table with proposals recognizing the high cost of living and pay at surrounding hospitals. (The connection may also have something to do with the large group of energetic picketers marching in front of the hospital a few weeks ago!)
The Union Bargaining Committee met with management on October 24 and we traded proposals.
We were scheduled to meet November 3 but management notified us at the last minute that they couldn’t meet. The Union Bargaining team made good use of the time to review management’s current proposals and plan for our next session November 15. We are hopeful that management will come back to the table prepared to get this done!

Members of the local community came out along with many hospital workers to send a strong message to management: We need a contract NOW! At the end of the Informational Picket community members stepped up and spoke to HRH workers offering overwhelming support! It was a beautiful fall day, a perfect day to make some noise in front of Harbor Regional Health.

Our Bargaining Team met with management on Friday August 26. Management made a proposal almost identical to the last one they gave us but in a different format. This time they gave a wage scale. All of the previous proposals have been percentages. They tried to make it seem like the proposal was new and wonderful, but our bargaining team spent a large part of Friday crunching the numbers and not much has changed.
Our Contract Action Team Meeting was Tuesday, August 30, and we discussed how we are going to move Management off of their ridiculous proposals.
Everyone is fired up!!
We talked about spreading the word and getting the community involved, reaching out to other labor groups and informational pickets.
Sign the strike pledge card to let management know you are willing to do whatever it takes to win a fair contract:

Our bargaining team was scheduled to meet with management on Friday. The bargaining team met at 9:00am and waited for management’s proposal. Management contacted us around 11:00am and said they were working on a complex counter proposal and wouldn’t be able to get it to us that day.
They had three weeks to get ready! Yet again they came to bargaining unprepared!
Hundreds of workers are relying on management to do what’s right and pay them what they deserve.
We do our jobs—management needs to do theirs!
We need management to see we are prepared to do what it takes to get this contract. Talk to your coworkers about signing the strike pledge card.

Buttons are showing up on so many workers at HRH! Keep wearing buttons!
On Thursday, August 11, union members joined forces to distribute buttons on both campuses. The buttons are being worn in solidarity with the HRH Bargaining Team demanding a fair contract. We will continue to wear the buttons.
Starting today—Monday, August 15—we will be distributing a Strike Pledge Card.
In solidarity with the Bargaining Team, the Strike Pledge Cards let management know that we are willing to do whatever it takes to get a fair contract!

Our union bargaining team has been hard at work creating a stronger and more efficient agreement between employees and management. We are proposing real wage increases because we have given up increases for the sake of the hospital. We are behind and need to catch up.
We are proposing wages:
That are competitive with other local hospitals
That meet the increasing cost of living
That recognize our value to the hospital and the community
We have worked through difficult times facing the ongoing staff shortages that require you to work twice as hard!
Thanks for the burger HRH but show us the money!
